CREATE.

you will need:
* skinny jeans
* scissors

step one
to create the latest style of ripped jeans dramatic cuts
are the way to go - so cut all the way accross the leg,
from seam to seam.

step two
the more you wear them and wash them, the more
weathered they will become so don't worry if they
look rubbish at first!

patterns + prints.

and if you really like the native american and aztec inspired
patterning, check out the *snake valley* collection at TOPSHOP!

CREATE.

you will need:
                      * a large shirt
                      * needle and thread/sewing machine
                      * 30 mins[ish]

step one
get a shirt - must be a large one [i used an old one of my dad's]. to
see if it is the right size, make sure that it reaches the middle of your
thigh, although lower is fine.

step two
try the shirt on in front of a mirror to make sure that the front and
back of the shirt join together comfortably in the middle of your
legs. [if it is too tight, the seam will rip.]

step three
sew together the opening seam in the middle of the shirt - take off
the buttons and save them for later. **make sure that you leave
enough space at the top of the shirt for your body to fit through
when you put it on!**

step four
cut a line in the middle of the shirt where you would like the shorts
to be for your playsuit. then cut diagonally to make a triangle joining
at the top of the middle cut.

step five
sew along the diagonal lines to meet at the top [it's best to sew along
the line a few times to ensure that it will not rip!] and thats the shorts
done.

step six
sew the buttons from the bottom of the shirt in between the buttons at
the top of the shirt [if you like].

FINISHED.
- worn on it's own the playsuit will be quite baggy, so make sure you
sinch it in with a cute belt.

HERE'S ONE I MADE EARLIER:

disgruntled.

to quote 'confessions of a shopaholic':

"it's the difference between cost and worth. essentially, something you can't see, can't touch, but it's actually the most valuable commodity..."

after feeling conned myself, i post this with an aim to highlight that in a world of so-called 'bargains,' 'sales' and 'reduced prices' even today high street fashion still manages to trick the most savy individuals into buying items worth [at a guess] 75% more than their manufacturing cost - yes, those shoes you bought should have been a fiver. the next time you see the LBD that you swear is your soul mate, remember that in 6 months it will be in the bottom of your wardrobe, no more than a torn mess. i feel like today shops are pushing the boundaries to see how far they can hike up prices that people will be willing to pay for the latest trends. make sure you are not one of them. shop quaility, not bargains and remind yourself that the high street does not have your best interests at heart.

INSPIRATION.

tales of the jazz age,
the return of the 1920's.

is daisy buchannan the new style icon of the day? it seems so...nostalgia for the great gatsby seems to be re-appearing into fashion; a-line dresses, long pearls, beaded kimonos, low heels and bows. clearly the glamour of the jazz age is returning, i love it! stick to pastel, summery colours, don't be afraid to wear headbands and feathers, leave those stockings loose and invest in some low-heels.

INSPIRATION.

i think it's only right that my first blog post should be in tribute to a label that i think remains one of the most innovative and beautiful on the market today. ALEXANDER MCQUEEN's s/s 2011 collection is exciting down to the last detail. i love how the girl's hair has been weaved! i'm going to put it out there and say, it's 'tailoring meets urban decay', however, STYLE.COM comments that it has more of natural feel to it from the use of feathers to corn dollies. although i definitely cannot afford to pair one of their killer mini dresses with those gorgeous heels, i'm definitely inspired. bravo sarah burton!
